Mettlesome Work-Trade Internship

Free classes, priceless experience

What is the Work-Trade Internship?

A work-trade internship allows students to sign up for classes free of charge, in exchange for providing service hours to the theater. New interns are chosen every term.

Students can apply for a Work-Trade using the form at the bottom of this page.

Who can apply for a Work-Trade Internship?

Anyone can apply!

How much can I save off of tuition with a Mettlesome Work-Trade Internship?

You will receive 100% off one class’s full term of tuition in exchange for a term of interning.

Can I intern to cover more than one class’s tuition?

Yes. Send separate applications for each class. You will be expected to work a full internship’s worth of hours per class.

What are the benefits of doing a Work-Trade Internship?

In short, having an internship is the easiest way to get the most out of your Mettlesome education. As an intern, you get:

  • Free classes

  • As a Mettlesome student, you can attend Mettlesome-produced shows for free (see here for more information)

  • You’re now on the fast track to getting involved with the theater. You’ll meet performers and faculty more quickly than if you were only taking classes, and you’ll also get to see more shows, all while supporting your improv education.

How are interns chosen?

Work-Trade recipients are chosen based on their need and weighted by the diversity of perspective they may offer a class.
Mettlesome receives many applications and cannot guarantee acceptance to every person who applies.

What Work-Trade Internships are available?

SERVICE Internship

If you have other skills you’d like to offer in exchange for classes (such as photography, graphic design, videography, audio, web development, etc), you can apply for a service internship. We accept service internships on a case by case basis, depending on our current needs and the specific skills being offered.

If you have any skill that you think the theater would benefit from, we’d love to hear about it and see if it works. When applying, describe the service(s) you can provide and how you feel they would be helpful to Mettlesome.

Tech Internship

Tech Interns run ‘tech’ during Mettlesome shows. This means running the ‘tech booth’ at the back of the theater, working the lights and audio for a show. All tech interns will receive training prior to the start of their term.

Tech Interns will be required to work 8 one-hour shifts over the course of a term (plus set-up time).

How do I apply for the Work-Trade Internship?

Simply fill out this form, and we’ll be in touch! A few things to note:

  • You can apply at any time, but new intern rotations start at the beginning of each term.

  • You must apply separately for each class you wish to do a Work-Trade for.

  • For any class, applications must be received no later than one week before the first class
If received later than that, you may have to wait until the next term.
