Workshop Description: What can go wrong, will go wrong... Good!
Performers dread the unexpected. You forget your lines, the lights go out, your costume rips. What if, instead of mistakes, these were opportunities for creating once-in-a-lifetime comedy moments?
And what if you could do it... on purpose?
Set yourself up for failure in this workshop, which seeks to get you to stop fearing the flub and to give it a big dumb hug.
This workshop will focus on:
Character creation
Building comedy environments
Performing in the moment
Following the fun
Creating inside jokes with the audience
Being a human being
Prerequisite: Previous improv or theater experience encouraged, but not required.
Workshop Length: 2 hours
What Should I Bring? Wear comfy clothes and closed-toe shoes fit for movement. Please bring a notebook and pen/pencil. Bring a full water bottle.
Please read our Lab FAQ & Policies and Covid Policies before signing up for a class or workshop.
Instructor: Griffin “HotDog” Hennelly (GIANT ROBOT FIGHT CLUB, The Magical Adventures of Benny and Griff) is a comedian and artist known for his absurd and frenetic live shows that blend DIY punk rock energy, off beat physical comedy, silly surreal satire and earnest vulnerability. After 15 years in the trenches of New York City’s alternative comedy scene and studying at The stella Adler Studio of Acting, UCB, The PIT, The Magnet Theater and with clowns Virginia Scott and Misha Usov (Cirque Du Soleil), HotDog moved and made his home and headquarters here in the greatest goddamn city on earth, Durham, NC. He is a professionally trained risk taker, comedy soldier, loving husband and humbled dad.
