WORKSHOP: Intro to Musical Improv

Workshop Description: A visiting instructor from Empire, a musical improv comedy supergroup based in New York City and Buffalo, NY, will teach workshop participants the basics of participating in musical improv scenes and making up songs on the spot. A musical accompanist will provide live music during the workshop.

Prerequisite: Some previous improv experience.

Workshop Length: 2 hours

What Should I Bring? Wear comfy clothes and closed-toe shoes fit for movement. Please bring a notebook and pen/pencil. Bring a full water bottle.

About the Instructor: Michael Lutton
(he/him) has been an instructor at the Magnet Theater in NYC since 2011. He is the current Artistic Director, and is the Director of the Musical Improv Program. He has travelled the country performing in festivals and has taught workshops in Boston and Washington, DC. He has also taught several corporate and team-building workshops. He began improvising in 2006, and was lucky to train with teachers such as Armando Diaz, Rachel Hamilton, James Eason, and Tara Copeland.
