To be and feel safe during performances, rehearsals, and classes.
To be treated respectfully.
To set boundaries regarding physical contact and subject matter that might trigger a negative emotional response. You have the right to dictate what kind of physical touch you receive.
To immediately step out of any scene, performance, rehearsal or class in which you feel unsafe or uncomfortable. And you have the right to excuse yourself from any scene or exercise at any time without explanation.
To inform your teacher of anything you want them to know ahead of time, such as physical or emotional conditions or personal health and safety needs that might make playing certain activities difficult or uncomfortably challenging.
To speak to any teacher, stakeholder or any other representative regarding behavior by any person that you feel infringes on your rights. You also have the right to file an anonymous report online at www.thisismettlesome.com.
To turn down a suggestion you feel is demeaning.
To define what feels fun and what feels comfortable (and uncomfortable) for you without judgement from others.
To fail, to succeed, to explore.
To love your work.
Additionally, you have the right to report conduct that violates the spirit of these rights even if that conduct isn’t directed at you.
Exercising any of these rights will not adversely affect your ability to progress in classes, to be cast in or be booked for shows.

COVID Vaccination Strongly Encouraged
Mettlesome strongly encourages all participants to be up-to-date on their COVID vaccinations. By “up-to-date,” we mean having completed your original COVID vaccination series as well as the recommended booster vaccines (according to guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention).
For past participants who had to show their vaccination status to attend classes: Mettlesome does not maintain a database of vaccination statuses.
Masking
Mettlesome follows local mandates set by the City of Durham and Durham County. As such, masks are currently optional.
We fully support any participants who would like to continue wearing a face mask indoors or outdoors. Wearing a face mask does not impact a participant’s promotion to the next level, nor does it impact potential future casting decisions.
Class Location
Classes are taught indoors in Mettlesome Theater in close proximity; However, Mettlesome is potentially planning to offer some outdoor class options in the future. Monitor this website or send us a message if you would be interested in attending a future outdoor class.
Attendance
If you are feeling sick or demonstrating any COVID-like symptoms (including persistent cough, temperature above 100.4, chills, sore throat, loss of taste or smell, etc.) please do not attend class. If you have recently tested positive for COVID-19 and have not yet completed a 10-day quarantine, do not come to class. If a student attends class and is demonstrating any of the previously mentioned symptoms, they may be asked to leave.
Similarly, if someone in your household has a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19, do not attend class. If you have had known prolonged exposure to someone with a confirmed case of COVID-19, please do not come to class.
When possible, if a student misses a class, Mettlesome will work with them to make up the class in a forthcoming session.
Refunds
Mettlesome courses are non-refundable. If a student misses more than 50% of a course due to COVID-related absences, it may be possible to transfer enrollment to another session, pending availability.

Coronavirus, COVID-19 is an extremely contagious virus that spreads easily through person-to-person contact. Federal and state authorities recommend social distancing as a means to prevent the spread of the virus. COVID-19 can lead to severe illness, personal injury, permanent disability, and death. Participating in Mettlesome programs could increase the risk of contracting COVID-19.
Mettlesome in no way warrants that COVID-19 infection will not occur through participation in programs or services. In consideration of my participation, I agree to release and on behalf of myself, my heirs, representatives, executors, administrators, and assigns, HEREBY DO RELEASE Mettlesome LLC, its officers, directors, employees, volunteers, agents, representatives and insurers (Releasees) from any causes related to COVID-19.

Age Requirement
You must be 18 years of age or older to sign up for Mettlesome Lab coursework. If you are 16-17 years old, you may take the course by having a Parent/Guardian contact the registrar (hello@thisismettlesome.com ). If you are under the age of 16, you can not participate in the Mettlesome Lab at this time.
Accept or Deny Anyone
Mettlesome Lab reserves the right to accept or deny any individual's enrollment.
Switching Sections
If your course section has not started and you want to switch into a different section that costs the same, is not sold-out and has also not started, you may do so. Requests for switches are only accepted when received by noon (12pm) three days before the start of the original course. Once your class has started, you can not switch into a different section.
Attendance
If you miss more than two classes in a multi-week course, it is at the instructor’s discretion whether or not you may perform in the class showcase.
If you miss more than two classes in a multi-week course, you may be considered incomplete and you may not be advanced to the next level.
If you miss multiple rehearsals for a Secret Society team, it is at the coach's discretion whether or not you may perform in any team showcases.
If you fail to attend a scheduled workshop, there will be no full refunds, partial refunds or credits.
Make-Up Policy
Due to the nature of scheduling instructors and space, make-ups are not always available. Some courses are unique and weekly instructions are geared toward the students that are officially enrolled in the particular section. When possible, Mettlesome Lab will provide makeup opportunities for students and resolve incomplete course credits.
Instructor Attendance
Mettlesome Lab reserves the right to replace a course instructor at anytime with another equally qualified instructor, without notice.
Cancellation
Mettlesome Lab reserves the right to postpone or cancel a course if they do not reach a minimum number of students. Fees incurred by student for travel/lodging etc will not be reimbursed.
Refunds
Refunds are available seven days ahead of the start of class through Eventbrite. After that, Mettlesome Lab is only able to consider class credit.
Registration Processing Fee
Registering for courses includes a non-refundable processing fee from Eventbrite. If the Lab cancels a class or changes dates after you have enrolled, you will be able to get a full refund.
Competency
Students are not guaranteed promotion to the next course level. Promotion is contingent on attendance, seeing shows and a demonstration of course concepts through application in class, during performances or writing.

Registration is Non-Transferable
Only students who have registered and paid will be allowed in the course.
Conduct
Mettlesome Lab believes that all of our students have the right to learn and practice their craft in an open, non-threatening, creative environment. In order to achieve this environment, students are asked to agree to certain ground rules in regards to course conduct before enrolling in the course. Appropriate action is further detailed in our Student Bill of Rights and our Code of Conduct.
Inappropriate conduct includes, but is not limited to:
Inappropriate verbal, physical or sexual conduct with other students or the course instructor.
Consumption of drugs or alcohol during class.
Wanton destruction of physical class space, which includes but is not limited to walls, chairs, lights and doors.
Additionally, students are asked to help foster a creative and supportive learning environment without distractions. Students are asked to support their fellow students in class by abstaining from eating in class and talking while fellow classmates or teachers are talking. Students must also abstain from using electronics in class, including audio or video recording devices and cellular phones (this includes texting and using the internet in class).
Inappropriate conduct will not be tolerated and will result in suspension and removal from the course.
Refunds in the event of termination follow the same guidelines as voluntary withdrawals.
Destruction of Property
If you destroy any property during a Mettlesome Lab course, whether it is by accident or on purpose, you will be liable for the cost of repair.
Liability
You agree that you choose to voluntarily participate in the course with full knowledge that the activity may be hazardous to yourself and/or your property. You voluntarily assume full responsibility for any risks of loss, property damage or personal injury, including death, that may be sustained as a result of participating in the activity. You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Mettlesome LLC, any performance or class spaces and its employees, members & volunteers for any loss, liability, damage or costs, including court costs and attorney fees, that may occur as a result of your participation in the activity.
We are not responsible for lost or stolen property.
Show Placement
Participation in or completion of Mettlesome Lab courses does not guarantee an audition for, or placement on a show or project.
No Large Items
Mettlesome Lab’s class space is not equipped to store large student possessions like massage tables or bicycles. Please lock these items up outside or leave them at home.
Learning Aids
Students with alternative learning styles need to get written permission from the Lab if they wish to use PDAs, audio recording devices or other learning aids in class. Students who are approved to use such devices must agree to our specific terms of use. Any students that want to use special learning aids in class must contact Mettlesome to arrange a meeting. (hello@thisismettlesome.com.) Mettlesome reserves the right to request medical documentation to support your request.
Inclement Weather
In the event that classes are canceled or postponed, students will be contacted. If you do not hear from us, assume that classes will proceed as planned.
