Acting for Improvisers

  • American Underground 201 West Main Street Durham, NC, 27701 United States (map)

Classes every Wednesday, November 5th - December 17th from 7:00-9:30pm. (There will be NO CLASS on Wednesday November 26th. )

In this class we will explore and discover the best ways to use our natural, improvisational instincts to help us perform text that is not improvised, but written. The goal is to eschew the tenants of “performance” and work more toward “living” in scenes, being present and attentive, and genuinely not knowing what will come next…like we do in life. This class isn’t for script study methods or acting techniques, though those things will be covered and become part of our work. Our greatest intention will be toward developing instinct, trust, and imagination in the acting artist.

  • Week 1: Imagining with trust and ease

  • Week 2: Beginning to change the body

  • Week 3: Letting the body change inner life

  • Week 4:Building scenes to live in, together

  • Week 5: Sharing scenes and specifying infinitely

  • Week 6: Showing up and hearing each other
