301: Longform Improv - The Harold

In this class you’ll take a deep dive into the mother of all longform improv: The Harold.

Use the skills from 201’s “Game of the Scene” to create characters and worlds that combine to form a unified 25-minute longform improv piece. This class continues a focus on Game-driven scene work and introduces students to openings and group games.

ABOUT JACK REITZ

Jack Reitz is an actor, writer, and improvisor based Durham, NC. He has been studying improv since 2004, first with the DSI Comedy theater in Chapel Hill, NC, and then with the UCB Theater and The Magnet Theater in NYC. 

Jack has appeared on stage in Durham, Chicago, and NYC and in various film work including spots for MTV. For the past five year he has toured nationally and internationally as part of Catharsis Productions' show "Sex Signals," which uses scripted and improvisational comedy to address issues of sexual assault in the military and on college campuses. He is currently the host of Our State Magazine's Secrets of the Triad Series.

Jack Reitz is a founding stakeholder of Mettlesome and recently directed Two Months In - An Original Sketch Comedy Revue and Bump in the Night - A Spooky Sketch Comedy Revue. He directs the show Golden Age and can be seen performing with Hush Hush. 

Jack has studied with Will Hines, T. J. Jagadowski, Lydia Hensler, Brandon Scott Jones, Rick Andrews, Jeris Donovan, and Paula Pazderka.

ABOUT ASHLEY MELZER

Ashley Melzer is an improviser, writer, photographer, and filmmaker based in Durham, NC. Born in North Florida, she received her Bachelors in Cinematic Arts from the University of Southern California and then a Masters in Folklore from UNC-Chapel Hill.  Her work has been featured in Indy WeekPaste MagazineeMusicThe Carrboro Citizen, and the Southern Foodways Alliance. From 2014-2016, she served Associate Producer of the NC Comedy Arts Festival and Associate Artistic Director at DSI Comedy. She's worked with Hopscotch, Moogfest, Groove Productions, Thornapple Films, Southern Cultures Journal, The Southern Oral History Program and more. She produced the feature length documentary, You Gave Me A Song, which premiered at the Full Frame Documentary Festival.

Ashley is a founding partner and stakeholder of Mettlesome. She directs Hush Hush, performs with Golden Age, and serves as executive producer of Clarified Butter. She also produced the sketch shows, Two Months In - An Original Sketch Comedy Revue and Bump in the Night - A Spooky Sketch Comedy Revue.

Ashley has studied with Aaron Jackson, Joey Price, Rachel Mason, Ben Rameaka, Paula Pazderka, Harrison Brookie and more.
